Who are the people in your neighborhood? In your neighborhood? Artsy Guy here. While the big brosephs left me behind in NYC while they went off to play in the Flower Power land of Ithaca, I'm using my time to wander my own hood. So there.
Queens Kickshaw is a somewhat new establishment that has heralded their arrival with the art of fine coffee (specialty beans and loving brewing techniques) and the comfort of a wide variety of grilled cheeses (inspired by the neighborhood). All of the above is truly amazing and highly recommended, but what makes this HHG-adjacent fellow post the praise is their recent addition of a carefully selected craft beer selection.
The bottles span the globe with heavy representation from the Belgians and Germans and a few hits from those rogue Danes, Mikkeller and Evil Twin. The good ol' crafty US of A is represented by Weyerbacher, Left Hand, North Coast, etc. Woo hoo!
The four draft taps (springing from an antique fire extinguisher) rotate regularly. On this visit, they offered Elysian Avatar Jasmine IPA, 4 Browkot Netebuk Saison, Ovila Abbey Dubbel, and - the reason for this particular visit and one of the best beers to ever hit my tongue - Hill Farmstead Galaxy Double IPA. I understand the Kickshaw received one of only a few kegs in the recent shipment of this stuff from those brilliant Vermontonians. Pretty brilliant for a relative newcomer on the scene! And it was oh SO good! I'm gonna take a nap and dream of Australian mutant hop fields now.
Okay, I'm back. Keep an eye on Queens Kickshaw. They're doing it up right in this borough. Drop in to groove on the vibe, partake in the amazing nosh, and imbibe on the beautiful beverages (in addition to the fab coffee and beer selection, there are craft sodas - ask for a shrub?? - and a spiffy wine list). The tunes are always kickin' and heavy on the indie-esque. There's free wi-fi, and they're open late now.
Queens Kickshaw rocks. Find it on Broadway near Steinway in Astoria, Queens (across the street from the Queens Library if you're also jonesing for some book learnin'.) That's what's HOPpenin' y'all!
